The U.S. Earl Scruggs banjo legend, who revolutionized how to play the instrument, died at the age of 88, his son said on Thursday.

Born in January 1924 in North Carolina (southeast), including Earl Scruggs Banjo had helped popularize in the United States the "bluegrass", a branch of the country.

Considered the inventor of a new style of play with three fingers, "Scruggs style", he performs with Lester Flagg for years. Their particular group gets a Grammy award in 1967 for the song "Foggy Mountain Breakdown", which is part of the soundtrack of the movie "Bonnie and Clyde" with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway.
Earl Scruggs Banjo Legend has also performed with Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Elton John or the Byrds.
